In Totonicapan, Guatemala 80%
of the population are living in poverty and 58% of kids
drop out of school. These children are facing serious
dangers such as exploitation and child abuse and many
other dangers facing kids in Guatemala.4 the
World believes that these children need a safe place to
pursue education, health and recreation opportunities
otherwise unavailable to children in this area of Guatemala.
This youth center is planned for children from 7 to 13
years old. Many of these children do not have the environment
to develop their homework skills. These boys and girls
parents are the market business people from the market
place. Many of these kids are trying to do homework with
no supervision in the busy market place. Some must stay
home and gather wood, beans or go look for work on the
streets to help feed their families. These are very dangerous
places for young boys and girls.
